Personal Finance · Free

The honest middle of UK personal finance.

Real Open Banking feeds, budgets that hold up, savings goals that track. No ads, no data sale, no “premium” upsell. Built by a UK SaaS founder — we make money from the business tiers, so you don’t have to be the product.

No credit card required, ever. Run a business? Try Blankitt Business from £14/mo.

Free, honest, UK-first

We’re not the cheap version of Monzo, the unpaid version of Plum, or the consumer try-on of QuickBooks. We’re a deliberate middle — the way UK personal finance should be.

Free forever

Personal Finance is free and stays free. No "premium" upsell with the actual features paywalled. The paid tiers on Blankitt are for businesses — VAT returns, multi-entity, payroll. None of that applies to you.

No data sale, no ads

We don’t sell your transaction data. We don’t show you ads. We don’t need to — Blankitt makes money from businesses paying for the SMB and Group tiers. You’re not the product here.

Your data, in your account

Transactions live in a shared D1 with strict row-level scoping by your user_id. Receipts go to a private R2 bucket prefixed with your user id. The only place your data leaves Blankitt is when you export it.

UK-first

Built for UK banks, UK tax rules, UK Open Banking regulation. Open Banking via TrueLayer covers every UK current account, credit card, and major savings provider. Sterling-native; no clunky USD-default UX.

What’s in the free plan

Everything below is on the free Personal plan. There is no Personal Plus “coming soon” gate to nudge you into. If we add features, they go in here.

Real bank feeds

Live UK Open Banking. No CSV uploads, no copy-paste.

  • Open Banking via TrueLayer — every UK bank, current accounts, credit cards, savings
  • Transactions sync automatically
  • Multi-account (Lloyds + Monzo + Amex + Chase all in one view)
  • Bank-grade security — your credentials never touch Blankitt
  • Consent expires every 90 days — we tell you before it does, never silently

Categorisation that learns

Tesco is groceries. Uber is transport. You set the rule once.

  • Auto-categorisation on every transaction
  • Rules engine — "anything from Sainsbury → Groceries", "regex on description"
  • Hierarchical categories you can rearrange
  • Bulk re-categorise — fix a mistake once, applies to history
  • Split transactions (one Tesco trip, half groceries, half household)

Budgets that hold up

Per-category caps with progress bars. Weekly, monthly, annual.

  • Per-category budgets — £500 groceries, £150 eating out, £30 subs
  • Weekly, monthly, or annual periods
  • Progress bars with safe-to-spend that respects upcoming bills
  • Carry-over rules so unspent doesn’t vanish at month end
  • Budget vs actual at a glance — no spreadsheets

Savings goals

House deposit, holiday, emergency fund. Track real progress.

  • Multiple goals with target amount + target date
  • Linked to a savings account so progress is live
  • Monthly contribution suggested based on target date
  • Mark a goal achieved → reuse the saved-up pot somewhere else
  • Honest forecasting — if you’re not on track, we say so

Receipts on the move

Mobile capture with on-device OCR. No upload spinner.

  • Snap a receipt with the Blankitt mobile app
  • On-device ML Kit OCR — extraction happens on your phone
  • Match to bank transaction automatically
  • Stored in your private R2 bucket — encrypted, scoped to your user_id
  • Export as a tax-year ZIP for Self-Assessment

Mileage for the self-employed

HMRC-rate mileage tracking that feeds your tax return.

  • HMRC simplified rates baked in (£0.45 / 45p first 10k miles, then 25p)
  • Annual totals ready for Self-Assessment
  • Vehicle records with type + year

Honest answers

The questions a savvy UK consumer would actually ask.

How can this be free if it costs you to run?
Blankitt is also a SaaS for UK businesses (sole traders, Ltd companies, accountancy practices) — they pay £14-£99/mo for the same underlying platform. Personal Finance reuses the shared infrastructure (Cloudflare Workers, D1, Open Banking via TrueLayer). The marginal cost of a personal user is low enough that we can leave it free and still grow.
How is this different from Monzo / Starling?
Monzo and Starling are banks — they show your transactions with their bank. Blankitt is a personal finance tool that connects to every UK bank at once. Lloyds + Monzo + Amex + your partner’s NatWest, all in one view, with categorisation and budgets that span them.
How is this different from Plum / Cleo / Snoop?
Those apps make money in ways that affect you: Plum recommends paid investment funds, Cleo upsells to Cleo Plus (£5.99/mo), Snoop sells aggregated data to product comparison companies. Blankitt makes its money from businesses paying for the SMB tiers, so we don’t need to monetise you. No fund recommendations, no premium tier behind a wall, no data sale.
Is my data safe?
Open Banking is regulated by the FCA — your bank login never reaches Blankitt. TrueLayer handles the OAuth dance, we only get a token to read transactions. Your transaction data lives in a shared D1 database with strict row-level scoping by your user id; receipts go to a private R2 bucket prefixed with your user id. We don’t sell, share, or resell your data with anyone.
What if I need to do VAT returns or run a Ltd company?
Then you’ve outgrown Personal Finance and want the Business tier (£14/mo, MTD VAT + ITSA, invoicing, fixed assets, the full Self-Assessment helper). Your bank feeds + categorisation history + receipts come with you when you upgrade — no painful migration.
Mobile app?
iOS + Android via Expo / React Native, shared codebase with the Business mobile app. Mobile is where receipt capture happens — on-device OCR via ML Kit, no upload spinner. The mobile app is in active development; web app is fully usable today.
