FAQ

How does leave booking work?

Each employee has balances per leave policy (e.g. Annual, Sick). Requests go through pending → approved/rejected, and balances are debited automatically on approval.

How leave flows

  1. Admin sets up leave policies under Settings (e.g. Annual 25 days, Sick unlimited).
  2. Each employee is assigned a balance per policy when their contract starts.
  3. Employees request leave from My leave (self-service) or admins book on their behalf from People > Leave.
  4. Requests start as pending. An admin or manager approves or rejects them.
  5. Approved leave decrements the balance and shows on the team calendar.
  6. Employees can cancel their own pending requests; approved ones can be cancelled by admins (and credit the balance back).

Statutory vs ordinary leave

Most leave (annual, unpaid, sick) is tracked through this regular workflow. UK statutory leave types — Maternity, Paternity, Shared Parental, Adoption, Sick Pay (SSP), Bereavement, Carer's, Jury service — have their own surface under Statutory leave because they involve qualifying-week calculations and per-week payments paid through payroll. See Opening a statutory leave absence.
