FAQ
Why don't I see the Company section in the sidebar?
Cap table FAQ: why the Company section is missing from your sidebar (it's Ltd-only).
Jump to section
Short answer
The Company section appears in the sidebar only when your company type is set to Limited Company in Settings → Company Profile.
Why
The Company section maintains UK statutory registers (s113, s162, s790) that only apply to limited companies. Sole traders don't issue shares. Partnerships have a different governance structure. Personal accounts don't apply at all.
How to fix it
- Go to Settings → Company Profile
- Set Company type to
Limited Company - Save — the Company section will appear in the sidebar within a few seconds (a browser refresh helps if not).
If you're a sole trader incorporating as a Ltd, the conversion wizard at Settings → Company → Convert to Limited handles the type change plus the Companies House lookup in one flow.
Server-side check
For safety, the server enforces the same gate — even if you bypass the sidebar by typing /company directly, you'll see a 403 COMPANY_TYPE_NOT_LIMITED response. So this isn't just UI: cap-table data simply isn't available to non-Ltd entities.
